Dumber w/ Computers?
Is technology having negative effects on our children's math and reading skills?
This study would seem to raise a warning flag.

Ok, so it's kinda silly to comment on my own post but until I turn you guys loose on this site, I'll keeping adding to it. Eventually, I hope that it is you guys adding the article and unearthing the ideas.
Ever heard of Clifford Stoll?
Clifford Stoll (or Cliff Stoll) is an astronomer and computer systems administrator, and the author of the books "The Cuckoo's Egg" and "Silicon Snake Oil".
He's an astronomy prof out at UC Berkley. And the books he's written caution the rush to embrace computers as the solution in education and society in general.
While I don't think all of his assertions pa out, it is still definitely something to chew on... as we seek to find ways to make technology a help in our daily lives and not a hindrance.

I think both articles are way to general.
The first article was just the most confusing thing ever. It was like, "well, the data says this, but we have a logical reason for it, so um, disregard it because we decided this was also true" The second article, by the professor, jumps around too much from different aspects of computers. (internet to teaching with them to using them for research) He didn't seem to stay on one line of thought. I thought most of his stuff was at the extreme end of the spectrum and not necessarily realistic.
It really is too general to be like, computers are the reason, because there are a million and twenty seven different things you can do on a computer. To just say computers is the problem is like saying food is the reason you had a heart attack. How does that help? Unless you're taking a computer class, at James River at least, it seems as though most people don't even rely that heavily on computers. Even in Henrico, they only really use them for the word processor. They're not replacing teachers or anything. Pretty interesting nonetheless.
